Crespine is a brand of hyaluronic acid-based viscosupplement therapeutics manufactured by BioPolymer. This product is an injectable gel that is administered intraarticularly to help lubricate and cushion joints (knee, hip or other) affected by osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a progressive, chronic disorder marked by swelling and pain in the joint. Crespine Gel+ is meant as an adjunct therapy for symptomatic relief of osteoarthritis and is given to patients who have failed to respond to the standard therapies, like pain medication and physical therapy. Crespine Gel+ is a highly pure, viscous gel containing both crosslinked and non-crosslinked non-animal sodium hyaluronate that emulates healthy synovial fluid in non-diseased joints. It also contains the anesthetic prilocaine, for the reduction of treatment pain. The main benefits of Crespine treatment include its single-dose regimen and relatively long duration of results, which usually last for 6–8 months.
Treatment with Crespine Gel+ is a 10- to 20-minute injection session performed in-clinic by a qualified medical professional. In this session, the product is injected intraarticularly into the synovial cavity of the affected joint. Both knees and other joints, such as the hip, can be treated in the same session. Patients should experience improvement in their osteoarthritis symptoms of pain, limited movement and poor joint function about 5 to 7 days after treatment. To maintain these benefits, repeat treatments given are necessary.
