In addition, SYNVISC® supplements the fluid in the knee to help lubricate and cushion the joint. SYNVISC® is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in clients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics, e.g., acetaminophen.

Frequently Asked Questions

This Synvisc variant was created to address pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis. This intra-articular implant adds the necessary lubricant to the bones. Clients can move more freely, without suffering from crippling pain. Clients who are unable to manage their pain with oral medication can be used to reduce discomfort and prevent further degeneration of your knee joint.

Synovial joint has connecting bones that are covered by thin, white articular cartilage. The synovial cavity continuously secretes lubricating fluid from the synovial cavity. Hyaluronic acid is one of the main components. The cushiony substance absorbs harmful shocks and allows clients to move freely when they are in good health. This causes less fluid to be produced, and bones rub against one another, leading to pain and inflammation. Sometimes bone fragments can become deposited in the synovial space. This causes more pain and swelling. This is how degenerative, chronic osteoarthritis can develop.

This Synvisc formulation is a single-dose treatment that provides fast relief for clients. To create a viscous and elastic gel, the hydrated hylan-A polymers are mixed with high molecularweight hylan-B polymers. The implant is biologically similar to synovial fluid and provides support and lubricating actions to the affected joint(s). The injection does not cause the bone fragments to grind against one another, which reduces pain. Clients can now perform normal activities and movements without discomfort. This orthopaedic implant can delay corrective procedures such as knee replacement surgery.

Examine the affected joint and obtain their medical history to determine if they are suitable for intra-articular insertions. Make sure to clean the area you are going to treat and get rid of any foreign matter. Before using the syringe, ensure that it is in a clean and sterile package. These are the methodical application methods:

To minimize product leakage, twist the cap of the syringe.
Attach the appropriate-sized needle (either 18G or 20G depending on the injection area) to your prefilled syringe.
Apply the gel to the damaged synovial cavity.
You can safely dispose of any gels, used containers, or needles that are not being used.
A single 6 milliliter syringe is sufficient to treat a knee joint. This procedure can only be performed by certified doctors who have experience in intra-articular injections. To reduce the risk of infection, use aseptic techniques during the procedure. This solution should not be injected into any blood vessels or synovial tissue. You could experience severe reactions such as blood clots and severe inflammation.

Injections of hylan gel are metabolized by your body in the same way as hyaluronic acids. This makes it a temporary treatment for osteoarthritis. One injection of Synvisc provides relief from pain and discomfort for six months. The results usually take effect one month after treatment. Each person’s results will differ.

Synvisc is a trusted injectable option that has been used for nearly two decades by thousands of clients. Important clinical trials have been conducted on this product to confirm its safety and efficacy. Some people should avoid intra-articular injections due to a lack of clinical data:
– Pregnant women;
– Lactating patients;
– Pediatric patients.

The product leaflet contains a complete list of contraindications and precautions.

– Heat sensation on treated site
– Treatment site
– Pain at the site
– Redness on
– Fluid accumulation or effusion at the site

Your clients should be assured that these reactions are temporary and can be treated with cold compresses. For pain relief, you can recommend or prescribe oral analgesics until side effects are resolved. Patients should avoid strenuous, high-impact activities like tennis and jogging. Patients should see a doctor immediately if they display signs of hypersensitivity/allergic reactions.

– Rash
– Swollen face and mouth
– Laboured breathing
– Speech impediment
– Fever
– Muscle pain
– Headaches
– Dizziness
– Nausea that may be accompanied by vomiting
– Tachycardia
– Lower platelet count

The product leaflet contains a complete list of possible reactions.

This Synvisc variant is made with hydrated hylan A, and B polymers. These hylan polymers, which are derived from roostercombs, are animal-derived and chemically crosslinked to increase viscosity, and elasticity. The injectable gel is viscoelastic, and it has the same properties as naturally occurring synovial fluid in our bodies. It can be injected to provide mechanical support and lubrication for damaged joints.
